During LASIK, a corneal flap is made. The flap allows Dr. Patel access to the underlying corneal tissue so it can be reshaped with an excimer laser to allow light to properly focus on the retina. Dr. Patel uses blade-free LASIK in Wichita to create the corneal flap in a faster, safer, and more precise manner than the traditional (hand-held blade) method. For this process, we utilize the iFS® femtosecond laser.
The iFS® laser creates a flap by generating energy that produces tiny bubbles at a precise depth which separates the corneal tissue.
